1999 Vesuvius
70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Zinfandel
The Sangiovese grapes (Polesky Vineyard) were picked just after dawn, taken to Mazzocco Winery in the Dry Creek Valley four miles from the vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon came from a vineyard in Alexander Valley, and the Zinfandel was grown in the Dry Creek Valley, very near to the Sangiovese vineyard. The wine was aged in 60% new French oak, 20% new American oak and 20% used French oak. Bottling was in January of 2001.
